So, how does the unawakened and awakening soul bring about the integration of the thought process, emotion, actions/reactions and thereby move towards true reality.
The amnesiac soul must theoretically understand a few concepts before it can experientially substantiate the theoretical knowledge it has gained in its quest towards true reality, The soul when it takes the physical form of a human being, lives a life in accordance with a karmic blueprint. This karmic blueprint is like those civilizations that have been long forgotten and so well buried in the sands of time that nobody in the present has a clue about them. Unlike these civilizations that reveal themselves, piecemeal albeit, when unearthed; the soul gains access to the blueprint either when it is back in the non-physical realms or when it gets enlightened while still on this physical plane. Till then the soul works blindfolded, not knowing which part of the blueprint the present life is structured on and which part is in play, influencing the present life.
Once the realization of this truth dawns on the soul, it also understands that in accordance with the blueprint it also has inherent good and bad qualities. The good qualities need to be strengthened on a foundation of humility and the bad ones need to be mitigated/eradicated. This would help in drawing out the future karmic blueprint that would aid the soul’s journey towards the Ultimate. In other words, the soul through its present physical incarnation is casting the die for it’s future lives.
With this realization, the soul understands that while it cannot stop the past from influencing the present, it can mitigate the influence by strengthening the good qualities and mitigating/eradicating the bad qualities. This has a direct bearing on the integration of thoughts, emotions and actions/reactions which help the soul to develop an all-encompassing view of situations it is faced with and of life itself.
The soul’s natural state of being is one of peacefulness and happiness. Now, when the soul knows that the architect of future lives is the soul itself why would it want to do anything that would disturb or disrupt the status quo of its existence? The soul will ensure that the karmas performed in the present are of such a nature that they attract no negativity. Karma constitutes thoughts, actions and speech. If the three are not in sync -the karma is a negative one. Therefore, a kindly action that is backed by either an unpleasant thought/emotion or unsavory words is a strike against the doer. Armed with this understanding the soul steps into the arena of life with an awareness that it has to be watchful of the thoughts and emotions that arise for the physical outcome could be either an action or a reaction. If it is a conscious action then the soul is learning to integrate the thoughts, emotions, actions/reactions. If it is a reaction, then not.
Like a boxer who is training to evade the opponent’s punches and at the same time staying alert to the opponent’s next move, the soul trains itself to watch out for the thought and emotions that arise within – positive or negative. Then keeps a guard over them to see how the thoughts influence the emotions and how the emotions influence the thoughts – for thoughts and emotions feed off each other. It is like watching the force with which waves break on the shore. Any thoughts or emotions that cause upheaval to the sense of tranquility, are the ones that need to be worked on. The nature of the human mind is such that thoughts never cease. The soul as it begins its vigil finds itself getting sucked into the whirlpool of these thoughts and emotions – the resultant physical activity, a reaction, and not a conscious action. At this stage of the journey, the mannerism of viewing a situation in which the soul finds itself is very individualistic – a strictly ground-level view. The continuous vigil pays dividends – a time and stage come when the soul can prevent itself from being dragged into this whirlpool. The soul learns to cause a distraction in the thought process by introducing new pleasant thoughts or by analysing these thoughts and emotions as an observer. It also learns to arrest the intensity of these thoughts and emotions as they arise. It is like watching a wave gently break onto the shore. The resultant physical action may sometimes be a reaction and sometimes a conscious action. The soul is learning to be less biased – a tree-top or mountain-top vies. Slowly but surely a stage is reached where the mind cannot conjure thoughts and the soul finds the mind like a blank slate and the emotions are like the gently lapping water on a lakeshore. The soul has trained itself such that it :
a) Accepts and understands that the majority of the souls are unaware that their life is a series of chain reactions to situations – a bus that has only the accelerator working.
b) It understands that materialism of this world holds them in a vicious grip and that this physical life is the TRUE REALITY for them.
c) It knows that they cannot develop a comprehensive perspective of any given situation for their biases are too stong. Being the odd ball, the soul accepts that it will be misunderstood.
Therefore, the soul does not fight them. It accepts them and gives them the leeway required when dealing with them. With this understanding the soul interacts with others and performs its karmas not only consciously but with the complete backing of the thoughts and emotions. It has achieved a high degree of integration of thoughts, emotions and actions. Integration in its entirety is only experienced when the soul get enlightened.
